The Hall State School

1 Star Accredited School 2012 - Waste management (sponsored by Sita Australia)

Recycling is part of the school's gardening and environmental studies with students learning in a 'hands-on' manner. The organic waste feeds a worm farm and a colony of soldier flies with resulting compost used in vegetable gardens to enrich the soil, and worm fluid as fertilizer. Paper reuse and recycling includes making shredded paper “bricks” to fuel barbeques and a pizza oven. Shredded paper is also put in garden beds and as nests for the chooks.
